INGEOSERVICE LLC published the article “Characteristics of Geological Nature of Inverted Ring Structures in the limited area of the Arctic Regions of the West Siberia as a criterion of Petroleum Potential“. Authors: Arkadiy Kurchikov, Vladimir Borodkin, Andrey Lukashov, Anton Nedosekin, Oleg Smirnov .

The subject of the seismic artifacts study and exploration, to which the abnormal seismic records refer to, relates with the tectonic history development features, fluid dynamic processes in sediments intervals, the distribution of the temperature and pressure (thermobaric) effects from formation fluid flow of upward hydrocarbon migration and other characteristics in the evolution of the Earth’s crust development. On the territory of Western Siberia and the Kara Sea basin there is a wide development of abnormal forms of seismic records it looks like abnormal ring structures (ARS), it is also called inverted ring structures (IRS), fluid dynamic abnormities (FDA). ARS are vertical extended ring shape of wave field deformation. The more detailed ARS structural features might be best explored by 3D seismic. At the present, the statistics captures the existence of such abnormal antiforms. There are still  many questions about cause and effect relationship of such artifacts with the secondary hydrocarbons migration mechanism, formation and accumulation hydrocarbon deposits, impact on vertical and lateral hydrocarbon migration intensity, the abnormal high pore pressures occurrence. One of the direction in seismic interpretation is fluid dynamic abnormities of seismic record and the connection with oil and gas potential in the sedimentary basin. In the article, the attempt is made to identity the link between the various forms of fluid dynamic structures (FDS) and the  time and the stages of deep fluids migration occurrence. It is possible that  with ARS could be linked the allocation of new types of hydrocarbon deposits – fluid dynamic type. It is still hypothesis. But the presence and analysis of seismic attributes allows us to make the above assumption. . What is positive is that studied by drilling ARS has the similarity of the hydrocarbon deposits presence.

Identification and discover ARS patterns of relationship with hydrocarbons mechanism, formation and accumulation hydrocarbon deposits allow us to conduct exploration geological prospecting works efficiently, access correctly geological risks, rank and identify the most prospecting areas for wild-cat drilling. The practice of proceeding the geological exploration works of recent years has shown the accuracy and informatively of this direction as an indicator of oil and gas bearing / petroleum potentialThe analysis based on various methods including geo-fluid dynamic model of hydrocarbon field formation. The article presents a geological interpretation of the inverted ring structures (IRS), the existences of these structures gives the geologists a possibility to consider the area to have the potential for discovery of oil and gas.
